There has been an astronomical rise in footballer's wages over the past few decades. There was a time when a footballer used to earn about a meagre 20 pounds back in the 1960's and now to whopping millions a year with the current crop of footballers. But having said that is their wages really justified? that's the million dollar question.
Many people have their own views and opinions about how much a footballer should earn, some feel it is too much, some feel it is right, but to marketers and big corporations these footballers are a jackpot cause they add value to their business.
These footballers earn in a week what a certain working class of the average people earn in a year. their yearly salaries upwards 20 million plus a year tied down with endorsements amounting to the same figure.
Forget wages, Let's talk about football during transfer season the amount of cash splashes by big teams initially now even teams with a lesser transfer budget then that of the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid , Manchester United and City also spend a considerable amount during transfer season. But why does a Football player cost so much now a days, why are they with a hefty price tag?.
Granted they may have the skills ,technique and overall an ability to play for a bigger stage , but are they worth investing millions for ? Bit of a controversial question, because some clubs spend huge amounts of money to land these high profile players and some click and some don't live up to their hefty price tag, but you also got to remember there are many partners involved when a club signs a player it's not only these big clubs shelling out millions they are being funded by their sponsors and partners to make he deal fruitful not only to the club but also to add value to their brand.
Take Wayne Rooney for example who endorses Nike even though he is well known him doing a Nike ad in turn increases sales to Nike so you see how it works how the sponsors also benefit.
To me a footballer's wage is justified because you got to remember the players today are not paid for just showing up for practice and performing on match day it's much more then that the have many responsibilities to cater and live up to.
Footballers are just like politicians because they have the power to influence you, move you emotionally and sometimes disappoint you...You invest in them knowing you can always expect something in return.
