The season is almost over with two games left to play. There still might be a twist in the tale for third and fourth place after Arsenal losing out last week to Swansea. Two teams confirmed relegated i.e. QPR and Burnley. There is still one team left to be relegated and it's going to be interesting to see who might that be with Newcastle United entered into the mix all of a sudden. Let's take a look at the matches being played this weekend.
We kick things off this weekend with the match between Southampton and Aston Villa. The Saints seem to be running out of steam in the final stages of the season, a couple of months back sitting in fifth and slowly losing their way and now fighting for a place in Europe next season. The Villains on the other hand have been in good touch winning their last two games on the trot. Both teams have something to play for with the Saints needing to win to keep their European aspirations alive and the Villains needing a win to ensure safety. Tim Sherwood would not want to leave it to the last day of the season to ensure his sides safety. Southampton in their last six games have picked up only four points, Villa on the other hand have picked up ten points in their last six matches. The last time these two sides met it was a scored draw with Nathaniel Clyne scoring at the dying stages of the game to secure a point for the Saints.
Injuries for Southampton: Tadic, M Schneiderlin, Forster , Mayuka and Jay Rodriguez.
Injuries for Aston Villa: Kozak, Baker , Herd and C Clark
The fixture between Sunderland and Leicester City an important game for these sides. A win for either of these sides would see them avoid relegation. Both teams are in good knick, the Foxes though have been in sublime form, in their last six games they have won five and lost one, the Black Cats on the other hand won three, drawn one and lost two, Credit should go to Nigel Pearson and the players for fighting week in week out to get the desired results. A few months back when most would have assumed the Foxes to down they have silenced their critics by showing that they are here to stay in this league for a while. Sunderland last week lady luck was on their side where they won surprisingly away against Everton. Leicester won comfortably at home against the Saints a brace from Mahrez. It's going to be an evenly contested fixture as both teams have to fight it out to survive. Advantage seems to be on the Black Cats side as they are playing at home. The last time these two sides met they played out a goalless draw, you definitely won't be expecting the same scoreline this time.
Injuries for Sunderland: R Alvarez , E Giaccherini, Doubtful-J O'shea, J Rodwell
Injuries for Leicester City: D Nugent , M James, Doubtful- A King
The fixture between Burnley and Stoke City, both sides with nothing to play for except pride. With the confirmation of Burnley getting relegated confirmed last week even though they won against Hull City, they have nothing to be ashamed off, they have been outstanding pulling off some major upsets along the season and also finally saw Danny Ings get on the score-sheet after a long time. Stoke city on the other hand have accumulated more points this term than any other season they have since coming into the premier league. A convincing win against the Spurs last week possibly ending the Spurs European dreams for next season. The last time these two sides met Burnley won the game with a brace from Danny Ings, can the Clarets talisman do it again and end the Burnley season on a high.
Injuries for Burnley: D Marney , K Long
Injuries for Stoke City: Shawcross, Moses , Krkic, Doubtful-Begovic
The fixture between Tottenham and Hull city, both these sides need a win for various reasons, Spurs to pursue their European dream next season and The Tigers to stay in the Premier League next season. Both teams have not been in good form with both losing their last two fixtures. Tottenham in their last six games have picked up only five points, Hull City on the other hand a bit better than their opponents picking up six points in their last six games. Hull City would be feeling low in confidence after losing at home last week to relegation confirmed Burnley unlucky for the Tigers hitting the post on a few occasions, Spurs on the other hand would be irritated with their sloppy defending last week against Stoke City and would be looking to do better this weekend against the Tigers. Hull City have to go out all guns blazing if they need to get something out of this fixture. Spurs needs not only Harry Kane but also the rest of the team to play well if they want to play in Europe next season. The last time these two sides met Tottenham ran out the victors with Kane and Eriksen getting on the score-sheet.
Injuries for Tottenham: Adebayour, B Davies and Walker
Injuries for Hull City: Ramirez, Snodgrass, C Davies and Diame.
The fixture between West Ham and Everton with both teams with nothing to play for, just finish as high up as they can in the table. With both teams losing their games last week, both of them will looking to make amends with a victory. The last time these two sides met the Toffees won the game 2-1
Injuries for West Ham: Demel , Sakho, Tomkins , Carroll, Doubtful-Reid
Injuries for Everton: Baines, Gibson , Hibbert , Oviedo, Doubtful-Pienaar
The fixture between QPR and Newcastle, although QPR are officially relegated they could bring down Newcastle with them to the championship next season with them. It's a tricky fixture and they will be looking to make up for last week's crushing defeat against City and end their final games in the Premier League on a high note. Newcastle finally broke their eight game losing streak by getting a draw at home last week against West Brom, a sigh relief for John Carver who was facing a lot of stick from the fans. Chris Ramsey stated earlier this week that a few of his players are not interested in playing for the London club, turmoil in the QPR camp let's hope they put all their internal problems behind and deliver a good result for their fans in their final home game. Newcastle will be looking to get three points which would ensure their safety and wouldn't want to let it go till the last day. The last time these two sides met The Magpies won the game with a solitary goal from Sissoko.
Injuries for QPR: Traore, Doughty, Vargas, Faurlin , Doubtful-Isla, Zarate
Injuries for Newcastle United: Armstrong , De Jong, Elliot , Alnwick, Haidara, Tiote, S Taylor
We end the Saturday fixtures with probably the most important game that is between Liverpool and Crystal Palace where Reds captain Steven Gerrard will be playing his last home game at Anfield. An emotional day not only for the skipper but also for the supporters of the club. A true legend for the reds who has spent 17 glorious years with them and won many honors with them, the only regret for Gerrard is not winning the English League. Making his 709th Appearance for them, the skipper has had an illustrious career in Liverpool's color's and stayed loyal to them even thoughhis 17 many big clubs have tried to sign him numerous times in his 17 years at Anfield. Reports say that they will a guard of honor for the former England skipper, the media would be focusing more on Gerrard's farewell then on the game. Wish Stevie G all this best in new chapter in L.A. Crystal Palace on the other hand have lost four games in a row and would looking to be the party spoilers for this solemn occasion. The last time these two sides met Crystal Palace won the game comfortably 3 -1.
Injuries for Liverpool: Sturridge, Flannagan, Doubtful-M Sakho
Injuries for Crystal Palace: J Thomas
These are the fixtures for this Saturday, a couple of interesting games for some teams to decide their relegation fate and also a few see their legend play for their club one last time at home.
